Colorectal cancer (CRC) has long been ranked as the top three common cancers in Hong Kong , leading to an increased in the burden to local health. The Department of Health has launched the Colorectal Cancer Screening Program (CRCSP) since 2016 to enhance the health awareness among Hong Kong citizens. As of December 2023, approximately 420,000 eligible individuals have participated and approximately 2,900 colorectal cancer cases have been diagnosed. It is crucial for the Hong Kong Government to invest more resource on CRC screening programmes and encourage Hong Kong citizens to participate.&nbsp;With both non-invasive DNA screening test and colonoscopy clinical application may wish to have more understanding of their advantages, disadvantages and limitations so as to improve Hong Kong citizens&rsquo; health.

While currently there is no overarching legislation to regulate the medical devices in Hong Kong, the Department of Health (DH) has established a voluntary system named Medical Device Administrative Control System (MDACS) since 2004 to facilitate the transition to the long-term statutory control and protect the public health.&nbsp; It is devised and implemented to enhance public access to medical devices meeting internationally recognised requirements in respect of safety, quality, and performance. The Medical Device Division under the DH is responsible for implementing the MDACS, as well as the preparatory works for developing relevant statutory control framework.&nbsp;MDACS is formulated with a particular emphasis on harmonizing with practices of regulatory authorities worldwide. It currently operates through a two-pronged approach: a listing system for medical devices and traders, as well as a post-market surveillance system.&nbsp; This seminar will discuss the scope of MDACS and share the latest measures and developments aimed at promoting its wider adoption, including procurement arrangement in relation to listed medical devices.
