The Hong Kong SAR (HKSAR) Government has further relaxed the COVID-19 rules for inbound travellers by lifting the amber code restrictions. Those from overseas and Taiwan entering via Hong Kong International Airport with negative PCR test result can freely access any premises upon their arrival, including participating in exhibitions and conferences. Inbound travellers are still required to undergo nucleic acid tests on Day 2 and daily RATs for five days, and show vaccination records before entering restaurants. In addition, travellers going to the Mainland China and Macao are no longer required to undergo a PCR test at the border, but need to obtain a negative test result 48 hours before departure. After consultation with industry representatives and key stakeholders, a decision has been made to reschedule the twin fairs to 2-6 July 2021, to be held at AsiaWorld-Expo. As part of its anti-pandemic measures, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government announced on 2 June that the compulsory 14-day quarantine for persons arriving in Hong Kong from overseas will be extended until 18 September 2020. The extension of this restriction means that overseas exhibitors and buyers will have great difficulty joining the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show if they were to run from 3 to 6 August as scheduled. In consultation with industry representatives, it has been decided that the next jewellery shows will be held in March 2021 with details as follows:
• HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show
3 – 7 March 2021 | Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Meanwhile, we are also consulting with the industry to explore other viable promotional options to help companies seize business opportunities during this challenging time. Details of any new arrangement will be announced in due course.
We would like to express our gratitude to exhibitors, pavilion organisers, industry associations and buyers from around the world for their tremendous support for HKTDC events – especially to the over 1,100 exhibitors and more than 10,000 buyers already registered for the twin jewellery shows. We will continue to make every effort to help companies capture business opportunities through multiple channels.

Large-scale international exhibitions are important channels through which global jewellers can expand their business. To help industry players capture business opportunities during this difficult time, we launched a month-long Spring Virtual Expo @ hktdc.com Sourcing on 1 April 2020, enabling global suppliers to maintain and establish contact with buyers during the traditional peak sourcing season. When the situation improves, the HKTDC will resume physical exhibitions as soon as possible to help global buyers and sellers recover the business lost during the pandemic. We will also provide O2O Business Connect business-matching service with video conferences for buyers who cannot attend the fairs.
We hope that the online promotion together with the physical exhibitions in August can complement each other and maximise synergy. The HKTDC will monitor the situation closely and provide details of the rescheduling arrangement to exhibitors and buyers in due course. For enquiries, please visit our website, call our hotline (852) 1830 668 or email exhibitions@hktdc.org.
The new regulation means that overseas exhibitors and buyers planning to attend the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show 2020 and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show 2020, which are currently scheduled to run concurrently from 18 to 21 May, will have great difficulty joining the fairs. In light of the changing situation, we have decided to suspend the preparation work for the twin fairs. At the same time, we are consulting with the industry to come up with other viable solutions. Details of any new arrangements will be announced in due course.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to exhibitors, pavilion organisers, industry associations and buyers from around the world for their tremendous support for HKTDC events, especially some 2,000 exhibitors who had committed their participation with booths assigned before we halted processing the outstanding applications for the May shows. We will make every effort to provide the industry with the same safe and effective jewellery trading platform and continue helping companies capture business opportunities through multiple channels.
