Jamil Anderlini is the Financial Times’ Asia Editor, appointed in 2015. He oversees the FT’s coverage of the Asia region.

In addition to directing the work of regional correspondents he oversees the editing and commissioning team in Hong Kong. He is fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. After a decade and a half working as an editor and journalist in China, he has cultivated a deep knowledge of the political and economic situation in China. He regularly contributes commentary for other media.

Jamil has won numerous reporting prizes.

In 2010, he was named Journalist of the Year at the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Editorial Excellence Awards and won the Best Digital Award at the Amnesty International Media Awards. In 2013, Jamil was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and short-listed for both Foreign Reporter of the Year at the Press Awards in UK and also the Orwell Prize, the UK's most prestigious prize for political writing.

He is author of the e-book The Bo Xilai Scandal, published by Penguin and Financial Times in 2012.

Nigel Anton is Managing Director & Head of Shipping Finance at Standard Chartered Bank, based in Hong Kong. He is responsible for the Bank’s global shipping finance activities, which include both the debt and lease businesses. Nigel leads a global team operating out of offices in London, Singapore, Beijing, New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Standard Chartered Bank’s shipping portfolio has, since starting at the end of 2007, grown to a portfolio of over US$6 billion comprising both debt and lease transactions, many of which have been award-winning transactions across the Banks footprint of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University College of North Wales. He is a Freeman of the City of London and also a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.

Bob Armstrong is a renowned speaker, author, and expert on issues related to International Trade, Cross-Border Logistics, the Global Supply Chain, and Customs and Security issues. He has also been active on various Boards of Directors including the St Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation as Ontario government representative, Ontario Chamber of Commerce (Past-Chair), Past National Chair of The Hong Kong-Canada Business Association. Currently, he is the Co-Chair of Metrolinx Urban Freight Study Group.

Bob has initiated and led over a dozen trade logistics missions from N America to China, Hong Kong and SE Asia. He has extensive experience assisting N American companies to find new sources of supply and/or customers for their products while ensuring their goods are moved cost effectively, efficiently with visibility and supply chain resilience to and from global markets.

Bob has also performed consulting engagements with respect to multimodal transportation hubs/gateways in Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan. His company, ATLAS, has performed numerous consulting/new business consulting projects for Ports of Belledune, Thunder Bay and Hamilton. Similar projects have been done for McMaster Institute of Transport & Logistics (MITL). He performed a rail connectivity project at the Port of Hamilton in early 2014. He recently completed a Feasibility Study in partnership with CPCS Transcom for a Rail-on-Apron project in Port Colborne. Other current projects relate to government affairs, transportation management, and developing new marine services.

Bob’s prior experience includes Senior Management in the Supply Chain & Logistics industry and with a major Government Relations Firm in Ottawa, and earlier as a Partner of a major Public Accounting Firm.

Ms Cissy Chan Ching-sze was appointed as Executive Director, Commercial of Airport Authority of Hong Kong in September 2012.

Ms Chan oversees the commercial development of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). She is responsible for developing and implementing commercial strategies and identifying potential high-quality tenants and operators for the airport's commercial portfolio, which spans retail, advertising and aviation logistics. She also leads the commercial division in managing and growing revenue targets while maintaining a high standard of commercial offerings at the airport to enhance the passenger travel experience.

Ms Chan has a wealth of general management experience gained from local and multinational organisations, particularly in partnership development, negotiation and managing commercial alliances. Before joining the Airport Authority, Ms Chan was the Director, Retail Portfolio & Marketing at Hysan Development Company Ltd. Prior to that, she held senior positions in multi-national companies including Reckitt Benckiser (Hong Kong/ Taiwan) and Johnson & Johnson Hong Kong. John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from McGill University and PhD in Economics from MIT.

He joined the Canadian Government in 1974 and worked for the Treasury Board and Privy Council Office. From 1981 to 1993, he was with Canada’s Department of External Affairs and International Trade, and served in Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo in senior diplomatic positions. In 1994, John moved to Hong Kong as the President, Asia, of Bell Canada International, in charge of strategic telecommunications investments and M&A activities. In 2001, he became the President of Bombardier China, until he joined Esquel in 2003.

John was elected Vice Chairman of the China Cotton Textile Association in 2005 and Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Textile Import and Export in 2009. In 2011, he was appointed a Board Member of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation.

In 2012, the University of Western Ontario conferred an Honorary LLD degree on John in recognition of his expertise in trade and labor issues.

Ian has one and a half decades of regional experience of defining and driving large-scale transformation efforts to significantly improve the business' performance trajectory. The work encompasses setting the business strategy and performance aspirations, identifying what specifically must change or be addressed to achieve those aspirations, putting tools and governance in place to achieve the required improvement as quickly as possible, and proactively managing the change management challenges to ensure that the improvement is fully integrated and sustained as part of the go-forward organization.

In the meanwhile, Ian is also the regional spokesperson of Sustainability. His recent successfully launched industry leading projects includes but not limited to responsible sourcing, waste reduction and recycling. Today, Avery Dennison is the first and the only label material supplier in North Asia Pacific offering 100% FSC paper liner at price neutral, and free recycling service for customer to transform liner paper waste into corrugated box.

Ian earned his Master of Business Administration from London Business School with merit and completed post graduate executive program from Harvard Business School.

Ms Margaret Fong is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) since 1 October 2014. With a global network of over 40 offices, Ms Fong heads this international team whose mission is to create and facilitate opportunities in global trade for Hong Kong-based companies. She joined the HKTDC in 2010 as Deputy Executive Director, responsible for the international promotion of Hong Kong’s product and service industries and the Council’s office network worldwide.

Ms Fong has worked in a variety of public service posts, beginning her career as an Administrative Officer with the Hong Kong Government. From 1997 to 1999, she served as Deputy Director-General in the Washington Economic and Trade Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

She was Deputy Secretary for Transport from 1999 to 2004, Director-General of the Washington Economic and Trade Office from 2004 to 2006, and Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, from 2006 to 2008, representing the Hong Kong SAR Government in the United States. Before joining the HKTDC, Ms Fong was the Commissioner for Tourism from November 2008 to the end of 2009. She is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong.

Ms Fong is a member of the Working Group on Convention and Exhibition Industries and Tourism under the Economic Development Commission, the Aviation Development and Three-runway System Advisory Committee, the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council, the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, and the Financial Services Development Council.

Ms Priscilla Law was appointed as the Head of Financial Services at Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) in January 2001. InvestHK is the government department responsible for investment promotion, i.e. helping overseas and Mainland companies to establish or expand their business presence in Hong Kong.

Before joining InvestHK, Ms Law has worked in the investment banking / mergers & acquisition industry for more than 15 years. She was the Business Development / M&A Director for one of General Electric’s divisions in Hong Kong in 2000. Before General Electric, she has worked for a number of US investment banks and PwC in Hong Kong.

Ms Law was invited by the Trade Development Council (TDC) to be a member of the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) Steering Committee since 2009 and the TDC Financial Services Committee since 2002.

Ms Law was born and raised in Hong Kong. She has obtained a B.Sc. and MBA degree from the University of Southern California in the US and a LLB degree from the University of London.

Patrik Forsstrom is an airline expert. Patrik has worked within the airline industry since 2000 and several different roles in both IT and Finance. He was a Shared Services director at Finnair establishing a new captive Shared Service centre nearshore producing a broad range of services for the Finnair group. He has also worked extensively in airline BI and been leading both the Cathay Pacific’s and Finnair’s Business Intelligence Competency Centres. In addition he has run several strategic restructuring projects within the airline industry.

Hi is very passionate about the potential benefits of both IoT and Big Data for the airline industry. He thinks there are major opportunities for airlines with Big Data e.g. for preventive maintenance in engineering and personalization for our customers in sales and marketing.

Born in 1972 in Inner Mongolia, China, Dr Guo Dongbai is currently CTO of AliExpress, focusing on cloud computing and e-commerce. He has 16 years of experience in the R&D of large-scale software architecture, particularly in the design, development and maintenance of Internet scale high availability and high throughput services.

Dr Guo graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University with a double major in Computer Science and Energy Engineering. He then attended Brown University and earned MSc degree in Computer Science and a PhD degree in Engineering, majoring in medical image processing and computer vision.

Presently he is in charge of R&D for AliExpress. He led the design and implementation of an active-active multi-data center, high throughput, globally load balanced, real-time personalized e-commerce marketplace. The system serves over 10 million people from over 200 countries daily. The design withstood record high transaction load on Nov 11, 2015 and maintaining 99.997% usability throughout the year.

Prior to e-commerce field, Dr Guo has designed data supply chain for various products in different application domains. He managed global projects and large teams for Oracle, Microsoft and Amazon. He has developed a number of groundbreaking innovative software products with remarkable commercial success. He has helped these companies established industry standard strategies in domains such as medical imaging, health informatics, terminology, and media supply chain; and has served leading roles in various standard development organizations. Dr Guo was awarded the honor of National Distinguished Expert by Chinese government in 2015.

Anthony Gurnee is the Founder and CEO of Ardmore Shipping Corporation. Before Ardmore, he was President of Seacove Shipping Partners, a private equity investment vehicle, CEO of Industrial Shipping Enterprises, Inc, a containership and chemical tanker company, and COO of MTMM / Chembulk, a chemical parcel tanker company.

Previously, he was the CFO of Teekay Shipping Corporation, where he led the company’s financial restructuring in 1992 and initial public offering in 1995. In addition to his operational roles, he has held a variety of financial roles in the industry, including President of Nedship International and Co-Founder of Navigation Finance Corporation, a shipping-focused mezzanine investment fund.

He began his career as a shipping banker with Citicorp, and he served for six years as a surface line officer in the US Navy in both deck and engineering, and including a tour with naval intelligence covering the shipping industry. He is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, is a CFA charter holder, and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. He also serves on the board of Global Marine Holdings, engaged in the worldwide installation and maintenance of subsea power and telecoms cables and related engineering services.

Throughout his career Henrik has worked in the roles of a Charterer, Owner and Broker as well as in segments ranging from small tankers to VLCC and in all cargo types from no heat crude to petrochemical gases.

In 2009 Henrik joined Heidmar (Far East) Pte Ltd, Singapore as Managing Director.

Henrik graduated from Frans Schartaus Handelsinstitut, Stockholm in 1983 and received a Diploma in Shipping the following year at the London School of Foreign Trade.

Khalid Moinuddin Hashim, Managing Director, Precious Shipping Public Company Limited (PSL), is an adjunct lecturer at SMU. He comes from a family engaged in shipping/trade. His father, the late Moinuddin Hashim, was the Chairman of the Indian National Shipowners Association and his greatgrandfather was a founding director of Scindia Steam Navigation Company.

In 1978, after attaining an MBA specializing in Finance, Khalid began his career with Tolani Shipping, Bombay. In 1979, he worked under the Hon. Ali Maniku, Minister of Shipping for the Maldives Government in Singapore. In 1984, Khalid joined the GP Group and started PSL in 1991.

In September 2007 Marine Money ranked PSL as the No.1 Listed Shipping Company in the World. In April 2012, Seatrade Asia awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to Khalid.

Mr Ho Lap Kee, Sunny, JP, is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council. He has over 20 years’ experience in the Shipping and Logistics industry. As he now shapes the thrust of the Shippers’ Council mandate as the voice of the Hong Kong shippers, he has considerable experience in aspects of trade and transport of goods. Prior to the Shippers’ Council, he was Deputy Managing Director of Swire Shipping Agencies and Taikoo Maritime Services Ltd, gaining experience in liner shipping, warehousing and distribution, freight forwarding, container haulage, mid-stream operations, China feeders, transport and logistics services. Mr Ho is a member of the Logistics Development Council, the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Committee, and the Town Planning Board of the Hong Kong SAR Government. He is also a member of the Transport & Shipping Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and Logistics Services Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He has been a member of the Port Operations Committee and the Dangerous Goods Standing Committee of the HK SAR Government for several years and Chairman of the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association for 1993-1995. With over twenty years of experience in the airline industry, Yvonne’s main responsibility is to advocate for a safe, secure, efficient and sustainable air transport industry. She works with government and industry stakeholders in Hong Kong and Macau to ambassador IATA’s interest. She also manages the IATA’s settlement plan for passenger and cargo in Hong Kong and Macau with an annual turnover of HK$54 billion.

Jack represents the fourth generation of a shipping family dating back to Mr Charles Eddie Hsu, who founded Eddie Steamship in Shanghai nearly a century ago. His late grandfather Mr V K Eddie Hsu founded Oak Steamship Hong Kong more than 55 years ago. It was Jack's father, Steve who rebranded Oak Steamship to Oak Maritime, where Jack has been Managing Director since August 2008. Currently Oak Maritime (HK) is the head-office of the various Hsu-family controlled entities. The Oak Group fleet currently consists of 23 bulkers and tankers (including newbuildings) with an aggregate tonnage in excess of 4 million deadweight tonnes, and an average age of about 8 years. Jack is currently Vice Chairman and President of Sincere Navigation Corporation, which is the Hsu-family controlled stock-listed company in Taiwan. Jack is Deputy Chairman of Hong Kong Shipowners Association, and Director of Britannia Steamship Insurance Association Ltd. He also served as Chairman to International Shipowners Association of Canada (ISAC) from 2005 to 2007.

Started the career in freight forwarding and logistics industry in 1991, Mr Kondo has extensive knowledge in the trends and changes in Asia’s logistics market. He joined the company as the senior manager of Yusen Air & Sea Service (Singapore) Pte Ltd (the present Yusen Logistics Singapore Pte Ltd) in 1994.

In 2002, Mr Kondo was appointed by the company to be one of the project members in charge of the establishment of the first subsidiary of Yusen Logistics in China. He was responsible for the set-up of Yusen’s operation as the class-1 airfreight agent and the development in the Eastern and Inland China in his five and half years of assignment in Shanghai. He had successfully established branches in Suzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing, Hefei and Wuhan.

In 2014, Mr Kondo was appointed as the Director of Yusen Logistics Vietnam Hanoi Head office, where he led the operations and business development in the Northern part of Vietnam and contributed to the growth of the company. After leading Hanoi office for two years, he was promoted to General Director of Yusen Logistics Vietnam in 2016.

Mr Kondo holds a Bachelor degree in Arts from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies.

During the 27 years as an Administrative Officer, Mrs Lam has served in various bureaux and departments. She was Director of Social Welfare from August 2000 to October 2003, Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Planning and Lands) from November 2003 to May 2004, and Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London from September 2004 to March 2006. She was Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs before assuming the post of Secretary for Development.

Mrs Lam was appointed Chief Secretary for Administration on July 1, 2012.

Since Mr Lam’s join in 1984, he has served Cathay Pacific Airways for 26 years. Mr Lam has been appointed as Director John Swire and Sons (HK) Limited in September 2016.

Dr Lam recently joined GS1 Hong Kong and serves as the Chief Operating Officer. He oversees its operations in solution delivery and professional services and facilitates industry adoption of GS1 standards.

Prior to GS1 Hong Kong, Dr Lam had spent more than 20 years in IT industry, servicing as senior product management and business development leader for several renowned hi-tech companies including IBM, Akamai, WebEx and Coremetrics in Hong Kong and the US. He has proven records in leading complex programs in cloud computing and data analytics.

When he was in the Silicon Valley, he joined a number of NASDAQ companies, such as CICI, Excite@Home and Cambridge Technology Partner and assumed both product development and management roles. He also worked for a couple VC funded startups, like Internet Travel Network - the first online travel reservation portal.

Dr Lam graduated from the State University of New York with PhD in Computer Science and specialized in Artificial Intelligence, Data Pattern Analysis and Computer Vision. He had authored more than 30 refereed publications.

Simon Large took up the position of Director Cargo in Cathay Pacific in August 2015, with responsibility for all aspects of the Group’s cargo business worldwide, including operations, marketing and sales.

His previous role in the airline, from August 2012, was General Manager Marketing, Loyalty Programmes & CRM, responsible for global marketing communications, loyalty programmes and customer relationship management for both Cathay Pacific and Dragonair.

Mr Large joined the Swire group in 1991and for the next 12 years worked in a variety of management positions within Cathay Pacific, including postings in India and Dubai. He worked in a number of key departments in Head Office with roles including Manager Global Sales & Distribution, Manager e-Business and Manager Business Development.

From 2003 to 2004, he worked as Marketing & Sales Director at Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (HACTL), at that time a joint venture between the Swire group, Jardine Matheson and Hutchison. From 2004 to 2009, he was Commercial Director with tea grower/importer Finlays, which is part of the Swire group. He came back to Cathay Pacific in 2009 as General Manager Japan, responsible for the overall operations of Cathay Pacific and Dragonair in that country.

Mr Large has a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Bristol. He is married with three children.

Lord Mountevans recently stood down after serving as the 688th Lord Mayor of the City of London.

Educated at the Nautical College Pangbourne, he studied Economics at Cambridge. With a strong Scandinavian background, he was attracted to a career in shipping, joining the international shipbroker Clarksons (now Clarkson-Platou) in 1972 as a graduate trainee, initially in the Tanker Department, later moving to the Gas Division. He served as Managing Director, Gas 2001-2014. Headquartered in London and quoted on the London Stock Exchange, the Company is the world’s leading shipping services provider.

Jeffrey is a Member of the Baltic Exchange and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Prior to taking office as Lord Mayor, he served as Chairman of Maritime UK, which brings together the shipping, ports and maritime business services sectors in the UK to speak to government and key audiences with a single voice on strategic and practical issues. He chairs Maritime London, which promotes London and the UK’s maritime professional services. He recently chaired the ‘Maritime Growth Study: keeping the UK competitive in a global market’ for the UK government (published on 7th September, 2015).

He returned to London in 1977 and continued to follow the liner markets where in the 80's he was the exclusive broker for the Mexican National line, TMM. This was the period where he made most of his liner contacts within Germany which was then and still is now the main centre of liner/container shipowning.

He was appointed by Clarksons to form and lead their own Container team in the early 90's, and he retired in April 2015 as Global Managing Director for Chartering with teams in London, Hamburg, Singapore and Shanghai. He was an executive director of Clarksons.

In 2013, Chris was appointed Vice President, Marketing and Sales. He has developed a trust based network and established cross-functional alignment between customers and terminal operations in growing the Vancouver Gateway.

Chris received his Bachelors of Business Administration and Economics from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada.

In 1992, Dr Qu Jian joined China Development Institute (CDI), a China’s top think tank based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, which aims to conduct high-quality and independent researches to provide innovative insight and practical recommendation for decision makers of government, business and NGOs. Since joining CDI, Dr Qu Jian has served several positions successively, including Director of SEZ and Regional Development Department, Assistant President and Vice President.

Dr Qu Jian’s research focus is industrial economy, regional development strategy, operation of state-owned assets and research on public policy. During his career of more than 25 years, he hosted more than 100 governmental research projects, provided strategy consulting for over 10 multinational companies, and conducted IPO feasibility studies and strategy consulting for more than 50 listed companies.

Mr Tim Smith graduated in 1985 from the University of Oxford with a BA (Hons) 1st class in Geography. He has worked in the container shipping industry for over 30 years, for much of that time in Asia, including 16 years living in Hong Kong. Initially with P&O Containers and then P&O Nedlloyd, Tim has been with the Maersk Group since their acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd in 2005.

From 2008-2015, Tim held the role of Chief Executive of the North Asia Region, for Maersk Line. Tim was responsible for all aspects of Maersk Line’s business in Japan, Korea, China/HK and Taiwan, which together contribute more than 35% of the global Maersk Line throughput, and a turnover in excess of US$10bn. The country and functional managers reporting to Tim were responsible for sales and marketing, operations, customer service, finance, HR, IT and administration.

In July 2015, Tim relocated to Beijing, China and assumed a new role as Chairman of Maersk China, and Chief Maersk Group Representative for North Asia. Reporting to Maersk Group Chief Executive Soren Skou, in this role, Tim is responsible to maximize the Group’s commercial opportunities across all its various business units in the Asia region, as well as for risk management and compliance, and leadership development.

Mr Stevenson joined the Prince Rupert Port Authority in 1997 as Marketing & Communications Officer and has assumed progressive roles in helping lead the Port of Prince Rupert in its transformation from a regional port to an integrated global trade gateway during his 19 years with the organization. Mr Stevenson currently leads the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Trade Development and Public Affairs team inclusive of marketing, business development, communications, community relations and government affairs portfolios as the Port of Prince Rupert works to enable the growth of the Port of Prince Rupert and realize nearly $30 Billion in investment and excess of 70 million tonnes of terminal capacity expansion over the next decade.

A key component of Mr Stevenson’s role with the Port Authority has been the growth and diversification of the Port’s cargo business through work with shippers and marine carriers to grow cargo volumes through the Port of Prince Rupert, as well as working with project proponents investigating investments in new bulk, break-bulk, container, LNG and general cargoes terminal projects. He has led economic development and trade development initiatives to facilitate Port growth, including working directly with international corporations interested in establishing business relationships with the Port of Prince Rupert.

Mr Wong has more than 30 years of working experience in the commercial sector. Before joining the LSCM R&D Centre, Mr Wong held a number of technology development and management positions in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He worked at the General Electric Company between 1996 and 1999 and from 1999 to 2004, he was the President of GE Appliances Asia. He joined Johnson Electric in 2004 as the President of JE Trading Limited. He was highly involved in developing supply chain solutions for customers and exploring new business models. He held this position until 2010.

Prof Zheng was previously Deputy Director of the Centre for the Studies of Hong Kong and Macau at Sun Yat-sen University; Consultant (Deputy Director) to Guangzhou Planning and Design Institute; Member of the Expert Infrastructure Planning Team for the Pearl River Delta (PRD) and Peripheral Areas; Advisor (Vice Leader of the Urban Development Group) to the first through the fourth consultation sessions of the Municipal Government of Guangzhou; Chief Editor of Pearl River Delta Economy, Sun Yat-sen University; External Advisor to doctoral candidates of the London School of Economics; and External Examiner to the graduate schools of Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Macau.

Prof Zheng is currently Professor of the Centre for Studies of Hong Kong, Macau and Pearl River Delta at Sun Yat-sen University; Standing Expert Member of the Expert Advisory Committee for Industry Development of Nansha New Zone, Guangzhou; Deputy Director of the Asia-pacific Innovation Economic Research Institute of Guangdong; Expert Member of the Urban Planning Committee, Nansha New Zone Planning Board of Guangzhou.

Prof Zheng has published seven books and over a hundred papers on infrastructure construction, urbanisation and regional economic geography.

Dr Zhuang Wei is the Regional Manager of Asia, Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO). Dr Zhuang started his BIMCO career with the legal & contractual affairs department where he joined a wide range of BIMCO’s standard contracts and clauses projects, including project development, revision and promotion. He was further promoted to China Liaison Officer as well as the General Manager of BIMCO Shanghai Centre. Now he is committed to keeping a constructive relationship with regional regulators and industry stakeholders and, most importantly, to provide portfolio services to BIMCO members and potential members in Asia.

Dr Zhuang’s previous positions include eight years as a maritime lawyer and Senior Fellow at Maritime University. He has a master’s degree in maritime law and a PhD in international law.
